South Lincs Competitive Swimming Club were delighted to have two athletes selected to represent Lincolnshire County on the 16th September. Emma Croker and Nitesh Anbazhagan formed part of the county team that competed at Luton Sports Village against representatives from Suffolk, Essex, Warwickshire, Hertfordshire, Leicestershire, Norfolk and Bedfordshire.
Emma Croker had a busy schedule, swimming in two relay events and the individual 100m Backstroke. In the girls 13 years age group 4 x 50 Medley Relay, Emma anchored the Lincolnshire team home to a time of 2 minutes 11.12 seconds and a fourth place finish. Emma set an excellent relay leg split of 27.88 seconds, almost a whole second inside her current 50m Freestyle personal best time.
In the mixed 13 years age group 4 x 50 Freestyle Relay Emma Croker was back in action taking the third leg of the relay and once again setting a strong split time of 28.06 seconds, the fastest swimmer in the team. Emma’s effort paid off with Lincolnshire taking second place in this relay.
In the individual 100m Backstroke Emma set a new long course personal best time of 1 minute 12.74 seconds and finished in fourth place for Lincolnshire.
Nitesh Anbazhagan swam just one relay, in the boys 4 x 50 Medley Relay he took the butterfly leg and produced a strong swim setting a split time of 35.39 seconds, just fractionally outside of his long course best time.
Overall Lincolnshire finished in fifth place out of the eight teams participating on the night. South Lincs Head Coach, Keith Haynes, said ‘these early season swims hold a lot of promise. Emma Croker in particular set some good times and breaking the 28 second barrier in a relay is a step towards doing this in her individual 50m freestyle swim. Next year South Lincs hope to provide the County with more swimmers for this event and more positive swims.’
