West Norfolk Open Meet 2022

Over the weekend of the 19th and 20th March, a team of forty South Lincs swimmers headed to Kings Lynn for the West Norfolk Open Meet.

This was an opportunity for the clubs younger and newer swimmers to gain some valuable racing experience and the swimmers acquitted themselves admirably. Not only did they collect a staggering 212 medals over the course of the meet, South Lincs also won the Top Club trophy at the competition and it was South Lincs swimmers Lucy Wilson and Frank Lamb who won Top Girl and Top Boy.

Lucy Wilson competed in twelve events over the weekend and collected no fewer than ten gold medals. Lucy’s highlight of the weekend was in the 200m Freestyle, where she lowered her personal best time by over a second and a half to stop the clock in a new best mark of 2.31.92 on her way to one of her gold medals. For good measure Lucy picked up one silver and a fourth place position. Lucy won her gold medals across all the strokes and the distances from 50m up to 200m. These results saw Lucy win the Top Girl trophy at the competition.

Frank Lamb contested thirteen events over the Saturday and Sunday and collected an excellent nine gold medals and four silver medals. The highlight of Frank’s weekend was a new personal best time in the 100m Backstroke where Frank touched home in a new standard of 1.12.82 and unsurprisingly claimed a gold medal in the event. Frank claimed his gold medals across a range of strokes and distances including his favoured Individual Medley events. Frank’s results saw him claim the trophy for Top Boy at the meet.

Susannah Poll, at just nine years of age, was competing in her first ever competition. Susannah only swam in one event, the 50m Breaststroke in the ten years age group. Susannah put together an excellent swim to touch the wall in a personal best time of 1.06.45, which saw her claim the gold medal in her age group. An excellent start to a competitive career for Susannah.

Sigourney Bolton had a host of strong performances over the course of the meet. Sigourney set new personal best times in the in the 50m Backstroke with a time of 38.05 seconds and in the 200m Breaststroke with a time of 3.04.78 on the way to two of her four gold medals. Sigourney also claimed five silver medals in the girls 13 years age group, with outstanding performances in the 100m and 200m Freestyle where she set new personal best times of 1.11.69 and 2.35.22 respectively.

Younger sister Sophie Bolton set new personal best times in all eight events she contested. Sophie took silver in the girls 11 years age group of the 200m Freestyle with a new best time of 3.18.96. Sophie added a hat trick of bronze medals in the 100m Freestyle with a personal best time of 1.29.39, in the 50m Backstroke in a time of 46.64 seconds and also in the 50m Freestyle with a personal best time of 40.94 seconds.

Heidi Woodrow was also competing in the girls 11 years age group and went on to claim no fewer than six gold medals and two silver medals. Heidi lowered her 200m Breaststroke time by almost eighteen seconds to finish in a new personal best time of 3.59.57 on her way to a gold medal. Heidi also set new personal best times in the 50m and 100m Backstroke events with times of 44.31 seconds and 1.35.24 respectively. Heidi also claimed gold medals in these events.

Lilli Bowman was in action in the girls 15 years age group where Lilli set a new personal best in the 200m Individual Medley of 2.45.26 on her way to a bronze medal. Lilli picked up a further bronze medal in the 200m Freestyle with a time of 2.26.04.

Younger brother Isaac Bowman was also in action over the weekend. Isaac set five new personal best times over the course of the meet. Isaac made a huge improvement in his 200m Backstroke, dropping over twenty-two seconds from his best time to finish in a new standard of 3.30.41. In the 100m Freestyle Isaac lowered his personal best time by almost ten seconds to finish in a new best time of 1.18.26. Isaac collected medals for two 6th place finishes in both these events.

Sophie Wilson was in action in the girls 14 years age group where she collected a hat trick of gold medals as she swept to victory in the 200m Butterfly, 200m Freestyle and the 50m Butterfly. For good measure Sophie picked up four silver and one bronze medal in her age group as well. Sophie set new personal best times in some of her less preferred events, most notably the 200m breaststroke where Sophie made almost a fifteen second improvement to finish in a new mark of 3.13.96.

Emily Briggs collected a silver medal in the 200m Backstroke in a new personal best time of 2.57.08, breaking the three minute mark for the first time. Emily also collected three bronze medals all in new personal best times. These came in the 200m Butterfly with a new personal best of 3.18.51, in the 100m Butterfly with a further best time of 1.32.39 and also in the 50m Butterfly with a new standard of 40.06 seconds.

Charlie Ward set six new personal best times out of seven swims and claimed a brace of bronze medals in the boys 12 years age group. Charlie’s first bronze came in the 100m Freestyle with a new personal best time of 1.15.64. Charlie followed this up with a bronze medal in the shorter 50m Freestyle as he finished in a time of 34.72 seconds.

Hannah Bruce had an exceptional weekend of swimming claiming seven gold medals in the girls 13 years age group. Hannah set a new personal best time of 1.05.81 in the 100m Freestyle on her way to her first gold medal. Hannah also set a new best time on her way to top the podium in the 200m Butterfly with a time of 3.06.38. There was a third personal best time for Hannah in the 200m Freestyle as she claimed a further gold medal in a time of 2.21.20.

Will Vere had a busy weekend in the boys 13 years age group where he set twelve new personal best times, that was a new best in every event Will contested over the weekend. Some of Will’s biggest improvements came in the 200m Backstroke with a time of 2.53.93 and also in the 200m Individual Medley where Will posted a new standard of 3.03.43. Will also picked up eight medals for placing 4th to 6th in his events over the weekend.

Aidan Evans won a staggering thirteen medals at the meet in the boys 13 years age group. Aidan collected silver medals in the 50m Breaststroke and the 50m Backstroke before going on to claim silver in the 200m Breaststroke with a huge new personal best time of more than seventeen seconds to stop the clock in a new best mark of 3.14.78. 

Sophia Shackleston claimed a silver medal in the 200m Backstroke in the girls 12 years age group. Sophia swam to a big new personal best time by more than twenty-one seconds to claim her medal in a time of 3.34.50. Sophia also swam a heroic 200m Breaststroke, having lost her goggles on the start, Sophia swam to a new personal best time by more than thirty seconds to set a new personal best of 3.46.24.

Lexie Hamilton had a busy weekend as she contested all events on the programme. Lexie swept to gold in the 200m Backstroke in the girls 13 years age group with a new personal best time of 2.52.13. Lexie added a bronze medal in the 100m Backstroke with a time of 1.22.91 and also took bronze in the 200m Freestyle with another big new personal best time of 2.41.67.

Older sister Lillie Hamilton claimed six medals in the girls 14 years age group. Lillie took gold in the 100m Butterfly with a new personal best time of 1.19.99. There were a brace of silver medals in the 200m Butterfly and the 200m Breaststroke again both in new personal best times of 2.56.02 and 3.10.52 respectively. Lillie also claimed a hat trick of bronze medals in the 100m and 200m Freestyle and the 200m Individual Medley.

Aaron Sadler collected three bronze medals in the boys 12 years age group in the 50m and 100m Backstroke and the 200m Freestyle. Aaron went on to take silver medals in the 200m Backstroke and the 100m Butterfly, both in new personal best times of 3.05.94 and 1.24.31 respectively. Aaron saved his best swim until the last event, where he flew through the 50m Butterfly to touch the wall in a new personal best time of 35.93 seconds to claim gold in this event.

Jess Herriott set four new personal best times in the four events contested at the meet. Jess took a medal for a 4th place finish in the 200m Backstroke in the girls 14 years age group with an impressive time of 2.58.73. Younger sister Louise Herriott also set three new personal best times in her events. Louise’s biggest improvement came in the 100m Freestyle where she lowered her best time by more than eleven seconds to stop the clock in a new standard of 1.45.29.

Archie Robinson was competing in the boys 13 years age group and set new personal best times in the 200m Breaststroke with an improvement of almost ten seconds to touch the wall in a new mark of 3.33.27. Archie also set new personal best times in the 100m Backstroke and the 200m Freestyle with times of 1.28.07 and 2.48.06. Archie collected seven medals for 4th to 6th place finishes.

Oliver Lloyd set a host of new personal best times in the boys 13 years age group. Oliver lowered his 200m Backstroke time by more than twenty-eight seconds to finish in a new standard of 3.04.10. There was a thirty-three second improvement in the 100m Butterfly with a time of 1.42.01 and another huge improvement in the 200m individual Medley by twenty-five seconds to finish in 3.08.52. Oliver collected five medals for 5th and 6th place finishes in his age group.

Grace Ravell also set a host of new personal best times and made some huge improvements. In the 200m Backstroke Grace lowered her personal best time by thirty-five seconds to stop the clock in a new best of 3.11.44. There was also a thirty-three second drop in time in the 200m Breaststroke to finish in 4.03.32. Grace also collected two medals for a 5th and 6th place finish in the girls 15 years age group.

Mackenzie Poll set new best times in all seven events that he competed in over the weekend. In the boys 15 years age group Mackenzie collected three medals for 6th place finishes in the 50m and 100m Backstroke with times of 42.00 seconds and 1.29.46 respectively, and in the 50m Butterfly with a time of 41.60 seconds. Younger brother Isaac Poll set a new personal best time in the 100m Freestyle as he touched the wall in a time of 1.42.89.

Kieran Lucy swam admirably well taking on a number of events in competition for the first time. Kieran set new best times in all six events he competed in with particularly impressive improvements in the 100m and 200m Freestyle where Kieran set new times of 1.27.48 and 3.15.48 respectively.

Reuben Owen was also in fine form as he set new personal best times across a range of strokes and distances. Reuben collected a bronze medal in the boys 12 years age group in the 200m backstroke with a time of 3.09.49. Reuben’s biggest improvement came in the 200m Breaststroke where he lowered his personal best time by more than twenty-five seconds to stop the clock in 3.54.78. Reuben collected a further four medals for 4th to 6th place finishes.

Lucie Lund took home a hat trick of silver medals in the girls 15 years age group as she made it to the podium in the 200m backstroke and the 100m and 200m Butterfly. In the butterfly events Lucie set new personal best times of 1.13.36 and 2.44.12 respectively. For good measure Lucie also took a bronze medal in the 50m Backstroke.

Leo Oldershaw had a successful meet in the boys 10 years age group. Leo took silver medals in no fewer than seven events and for good measure added one bronze to his personal haul. Leo set a host of new personal best times over the weekend. Some of Leo’s best improvements came in the 100m Backstroke with a time of 1.43.69 and in the 100m Individual Medley with a time of 1.49.87. 

Older sister Elysia Oldershaw set seven personal best times in the girls 14 years age group. Elysia’s biggest improvement came in the 200m Freestyle with a time of 2.56.79. Elysia also collected a medal for a 6th place finish in the 50m Backstroke.

Aliyah Mohamed claimed a bronze medal in the 50m Breaststroke in the girls 11 years age group with a new personal best time of 53.95 seconds. Aliyah set new personal best times in a further five events, most significantly in the 100m Freestyle with a new standard of 1.31.14.

Zofia Nowak claimed two medals in the girls 14 years age group as she set a new personal best time in the 50m Breaststroke by more than fourteen seconds. Zofia stopped the clock in a new standard of 46.93 seconds to take 5th place. Zofia also took a medal in the longer 100m Breaststroke with a time of 1.45.35 and a 6th place finish. 

Kieran Ng had a hugely successful meet. Kieran contested twelve events and won no fewer than eleven gold medals and one silver medal. Kieran also managed to set new personal best times in all events he swam. Some of Kieran’s best swims came in the 200m Individual Medley with a huge improvement to claim gold and set a new standard of 2.44.13. There were also big improvements in the 200m backstroke and 200m Freestyle with times of 2.40.82 and 2.23.55 respectively. Kieran claimed Regional qualifying times in all three of these events.

Francesco Monaco was competing in the boys 10 years age group and won all twelve events he contested. Francesco made a significant improvement in his 200m Backstroke with a new personal best time of 2.59.50. Francesco also set new personal best times on his way to gold medals in the 50m and 100m Freestyle, the 50m and 100m Backstroke and the 50m and 200m Breaststroke.
